The Best Content for Your Website

Here's the truth. You can spend oodles and doodles of money to get your website to rank the highest in all the land or in search results as the case may be. In some instances, the investment can actually pay you back. None of it matters though, if you drive traffic to your site and everyone takes a u-turn. #bouncerate. Something on the page that you drive them to must drive them to find out more, or to sign up or at the very least ponder as to what the heck is going on. #keepthemcurious
If we're honest, a goldfish has more of an attention span than human beings.
I know I was shocked too. I'm not quite sure how you measure that variable but apparently it's legit. Add in the fact that even people who can focus for longer are often fickle and it's enough to make you believe that the situation is hopeless.

Fear not. The best content you have for your website is you. I'm not talking about a website resume that sings your praises or an about me section that lists the awards you've won. I'm talking about you explaining why you do what you do in the least amount of words possible. #goldfish Yes, have a space where the user lands and gets the information they need in the fastest and most seamless way possible. And then, have a space that makes people want to explore or watch or wonder what you're talking about. Take my site for example. It's a work in progress. I'm hoping people are curious about hexagonal shapes enough to click on one. I threw my blogs on the front page because a title or graphic may catch someone's eye and also because my blogs as you will see, are filled with just what you might expect from someone who named her business, "BrainyBirdMedia". There's always research, reflection, application and a hint of the whimsical because in my world, all of it needs to be fun as well as relevant. (As a side note, blogs give you and your team if you have one, more room to be you than other platforms)
You need to find a way to tell the truth of what you do.

Truth inspires. I love food, especially the kind that apparently has no nutritional value other than making me feel like heaven is real and there's a slice of it on earth. I love to frequent places that are local with owners who mingle and meander and want to know if you enjoyed your meal. I do look at the about sections of websites to see what people are passionate about. I get that in some industries it's easier than others to let your personality shine through. A little spice here and there is better than completely bland brand. Even in a world of global software and digital transformations and all things tech and numbers, there's room to be human and transparent. At the end of the day, despite all of our technology, it's really human beings that get us where we need to ultimately go. The door to your business is a URL that you can post or send anywhere whether you rank on the first page of Google or not.
So every now and then, sprinkle a little of yourself in what you do, list your favorite attractions on your website, your hobbies, your fur baby. You just never know who's waiting on the other side of the screen to connect. Who knows? It may be someone who's interested in the video you posted of your goldfish!
